Organic Recovery Partners With Publix Super Markets In Sustainable Future

POMPANO BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Organic Recovery LLC, a local company, debuted its first facility in Pompano Beach today while announcing their partnership with Publix Super Markets to increase their recycling rate by 25-30 percent in 33 stores. By the end of summer 2008, Organic Recovery has a goal of serving all 84 Publix stores in Broward County.

Organic Recovery's process is unique, simple and fast. The process starts with food that is free from decomposition. In less than three hours, that material is turned into a liquid soil amendment, harvest-to-harvest (H2H). The end result is a powerful plant food that has not lost any of its nutrients and is beneficial for growers at all levels: homeowners right up to large commercial agriculture. Other naturally occurring benefits are: it does not leach into the water supply; it does not gas off, and it does not contaminate groundwater.

"This is a great day for us. We are coming together under the promise of a bright future. That union and that promise are called Organic Recovery," said Jeff Young, CEO of Organic Recovery. "This is where it all begins — diverting food remnants from the waste stream, reducing carbon emissions, producing powerful soil amendments and plant foods, and making products that replace environmentally destructive petrochemical fertilizers."

"I applaud Organic Recovery and Publix for their commitment to exploring good business options that help our environment while also firing Florida's economic engine," Governor Crist said. "What these businesses are doing is a perfect example of how there is gold in green and economic opportunity in sustainable business practices."

"Publix's continued success depends upon sustaining our environment, the people in our company and communities and our business," said Publix Vice President of Facility Services, Dave Duncan. "Organic Recovery presents an opportunity in fulfilling our mission to be intolerant of waste by diverting food waste that would typically be sent to local landfills, thus reducing the greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, supporting green companies such as Organic Recovery allows Publix to open the door for environmentally sustainable alternatives to become accessible to the industry and consumers alike. We are pleased with the short-term results and look forward to long-term resolutions."

Future goals for Organic Recovery include serving Publix stores in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. Further, discussions are underway to begin planning for two additional facilities: Lakeland, Fla., and Atlanta.
