Block & Leviton LLP Investigates Credit Card Breaches At National Supermarket Chains

Boston, MA /PRNewswire/ - Block & Leviton LLP (www.blockesq.com), a Boston-based law firm representing consumers nationwide, has commenced an investigation into a credit card data breach at the supermarket chains Supervalu, Inc. ("Supervalu"; NYSE: SVU) and the Albertson's family of stores, which includes Albertsons, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's and Star Market.

In an August 14, 2014 statement, Supervalu confirmed that its systems had "experienced a criminal intrusion" that may have "resulted in the theft of account numbers," as well as other account data. Federal law enforcement authorities are currently investigating.

Supervalu's statement noted that "[s]ome stores owned and operated by Albertson's LLC and New Albertson's, Inc. suffered a related criminal intrusion." On August 15, 2014, AB Acquisition (the parent company of the Albertson's affiliated stores) confirmed that it had suffered a data breach.

According to reports, transactions at Supervalu, Albertsons, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's and Star Market that occurred between June 22, 2014 and July 17, 2014 may have been affected by the breach. Following this breach, customers are being told to closely monitor their bank and credit card statements for fraudulent activity.

Supervalu has posted a list of the stores that it believes to have been affected at: http://www.supervalu.com/content/dam/supervalu/Store%20List.pdf

Block & Leviton's investigation seeks to determine, among other things, whether any of the supermarket chains acted negligently or otherwise breached any duties owed to their customers.
