ALDI SÜD Introduces Alipay As A Payment Option

From August 31, ALDI SÜD customers can now use another mobile payment option in addition to various mobile payment methods such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Sodexo Benefits Pass: Alipay. This makes the discounter the first grocery retailer in Germany to offer the Ant Group's popular online payment system.

It is important to ALDI SÜD to make shopping as easy as possible for customers. For the discounter, this also requires fast and uncomplicated checkout processing. At ALDI SÜD, customers can choose from 11 payment methods. The options will be expanded to include a popular QR code payment method at the end of August: Alipay. It combines many added values ​​that have already made it very successful in China. With over a billion users, Alipay is the leading payment platform there, through which almost everything in daily life is managed - from paying electricity bills to ordering groceries. Especially for Chinese tourists and Chinese living in Germany, the introduction of Alipay at ALDI SÜD offers a convenient payment option with which they are already very familiar. and which works contactless and in a matter of seconds: If a customer wants to pay with Alipay, the cashier simply activates the EC terminal and the customer can pay for the purchase using a QR code using the Alipay app on his smartphone. A prerequisite for use is an Alipay account, which can be created with a Chinese bank account or an international bank card.

Contactless payment is the trend
ALDI SÜD has been offering customers the option of conveniently paying for their purchase without contact since 2015. At the end of 2015, contactless payments were activated for VISA, VPAY, Mastercard and Maestro. Girocard and AMEX followed at the beginning of 2017. During the Corona period in particular, cashless and contactless payment is becoming increasingly popular with customers and, by minimizing contact, also contributes to hygiene protection. The corona pandemic has shown that customers are ready to adjust their payment behavior. Compared to the time before the pandemic, the trend towards card payments at ALDI SÜD is clearly upwards.
