Haggen, Inc., A Leading Grocery Retailer, Deploys GoldenGate For Real-Time Business Intelligence
San Francisco, CA - GoldenGate Software Inc., a leading provider of high availability and real-time data integration solutions, recently announced that Haggen, Inc., a leading US food & grocery retailer, operating as Haggen Food & Pharmacy and TOP Food & Drug, has deployed the GoldenGate real-time data integration solution to improve the quality and timeliness of its data integration process. The innovative retailer uses GoldenGate solutions for real-time data feeds to facilitate downstream reporting and business intelligence, which significantly reduces the latency of the data, as well as transmission errors.
Haggen, a privately held company celebrating its 75th year, currently operates 33 supermarkets throughout Washington and Oregon. With millions of Point of Sale (POS) transactions every week, Haggen relies on the GoldenGate solution to integrate its transactional data seamlessly from the StoreNext ISS45 POS system into an interim Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Operational Data Store (ODS). Every few minutes, this data is delivered to the Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). Information is then readily available for business-wide reporting and analysis such as revenue and margin by store and for any given product.
"Prior to implementing the solution, there was a lag time of as much as 24 hours before we had visibility to information on margin and revenue," said Harrison Lewis, CIO at Haggen. "With GoldenGate in place, we have not only seen a dramatic decrease in data latency and errors, but also now have complete visibility throughout the sales day in record time. This allows us to make important decisions about the business that have a positive effect on that day's sales and operations."
GoldenGate worked closely with the Haggen IT team to augment the GoldenGate Capture component, enabling data to easily be pulled from the StoreNext POS system. Access to fresh data allows Haggen to report on a wide range of business metrics such as sales by store, by department, or by lane for any given item across the grocery chain network. This business intelligence can be used for critical decisions, including which items to mark up or mark down and also to determine which promotional marketing campaigns to run and when.
"Haggen is a great example of an innovative organization using real-time technology to gain competitive advantage," said Sami Akbay, vice president of product management and marketing for GoldenGate. "By selecting GoldenGate, Haggen now has the most accurate and reliable data possible, which in turn enhances overall organization and customer satisfaction."
